The Hyam Institute of Technology

Where you are the user, not the product

OUR MISSION

To build technology that is mission-driven, community-focused, with a reputation for trustworthiness, transparency, credibility, and a commitment to social good ahead of commercial profit.

HYAM INSTITUTE

We’re Changing the Way the World Thinks About Mobile Technology

Apps must be created to serve humans, not enslave them.

They must be developed to eradicate or, at best, reduce global issues such as health, housing, food and social crises.

Due to the severity of these global issues, they should be implemented with speed.

OUR VISION

To Deliver Exceptional Solutions to Real-World Problems by Creating Ethical Tech

BE INTENTIONALLY BENEFICIAL

Instead of optimising for 'time spent on App,' or extracting personal details to feed advertising algorithms, we redirect our efforts to developing technology that solves global challenges, either social, economic, or environmental.

SOLUTION DRIVEN

Technology must be developed to address real-world challenges and should not, under any circumstances, contribute to the emergence of more significant issues.

REJECTING EXTRACTION

There needs to be a transition away from apps that solely focus on profiling users' interests, likes, and dislikes to deliver advertising content aimed at generating financial profit from users.

BUILT FOR GOOD

Until now, the success of an app has been determined solely by quarterly growth and user engagement metrics. We believe that tech companies should equally weigh their social and environmental responsibility alongside their financial.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT WE BUILD

For many years, tech companies insisted they were merely 'creating tools' and had no responsibility for their usage (or misuse).

We have an ethical responsibility to create tech that has a positive impact on society - never a negative one.

PRIVACY BY DESIGN

Tech companies have traditionally buried privacy settings deep within their menus, making them inaccessible to many users. The Hyam Institute builds in Privacy as the default setting rather than an optional feature.

ALGORITHMIC TRANSPARENCY

The primary role of algorithms is to filter, rank, and recommend content to users based on their clicks, likes, watch time, and search history. The algorithm quickly provides more similar content to maximise the users' time on the app.

The secondary function, however, is less transparent, and this is where tech companies should be honest about their actual motives.

WHY THE HYAM INSTITUTE

A different approach, using a new method of software and app design.

To build technology that is mission-driven, community-focused, with a reputation for trustworthiness, transparency, credibility, and a focus on social good before commercial profit.

Our first App Project One

As we embark on launching our portfolio of apps, our initial focus will be on tackling a major global healthcare problem.

A GLOBAL HEALTHCARE PROBLEM

In India, this healthcare challenge impacts 5 million individuals and contributes to an estimated 100,000 deaths each year - many in rural communities.

The development of our FREE app aligns with the core values of the Hyam Institute, as we aim to substantially reduce the number of deaths associated with this issue.

Nature Policy

Our commitment to land, sea, air, and all living creatures.

We believe that nature (biodiversity) needs to be at the forefront of any business mind, rather than just a compliance obligation that is often overlooked and ignored.

As a company, we must learn to coexist.

Nature must have a strong voice in any business because it doesn't have a voice of its own.

Social Change Innovator of the Year 2026.

"Thank you so much for this wonderful news, what a genuine honour. To be recognised as Social Change Innovator of the Year 2026 means a great deal to everyone at the Hyam Institute of Technology. We've built this studio around a simple but deeply held belief: that technology should serve people and the planet, not just profit. Receiving this award is a beautiful validation of that mission, and we're truly grateful. Thanks to the awards team for their care and rigour in the award process. We would also like to thank everyone who voted for us. This recognition genuinely moves us."

On the 9th of June, the Hyam Institute won the SME News’s IT Awards 2026 for:

Social Change Innovator of the Year 2026.

We started this studio with a conviction: technology built without conscience is technology wasted. Every project we take on is an expression of that belief.
This award is not just recognition of what we have built. It is recognition of why we built it.
To the SME News’s IT Awards 2026 Awards team, to our collaborators, and to everyone who has championed ethical technology as a genuine force for change: thank you.

The work continues.
